I headed out on the road. Parked on the road in Crystal Lake was this van, a rider from 2005 from New Brunswick, in town to support us!
Just as I was cruising along the bike path, up head I saw some guy lifting Alida's bike out of the flower ditch and Lynn was sprawled on the pavement. I thought she needed my sign more than me.
Apparently, Lynn had been assaulted by wild sunflowers and lost control which sent Alida flying too. Alida was mostly unscathed but Lynn had scraped knees and elbow so I called Nurse Betsy. It was hard to give accurate directions to Betsy but I told her I would put my bike out at the road curb so she could locate us. My bike is nothing if it is not noticeable and it was my first chance to use the HELP WANTED sign.
We cleaned Lynn up a bit while we waited and also had to make some adjustments to the bent bikes. An interesting phenomenon started happening, people driving by saw my bike and sign and actually stopped to offer their assistance! Hey girls, The sign really works!
After Betsy got there, a local cop also showed up. He had gotten a call about a bike with streamers that needed help.
He confessed that he had actually driven by earlier, saw the bike but knew a few of the homeless people in the area and when he saw the streamers he thought that one of them were playing a joke. When he got the radio call, he sheepishly said he was in the area and would look after it!
Lynn and her bike were patched up so off we went. It was a lovely path along the Fox river.
A few people had set up support and water stops for us as it was difficult for the SAGs to get it. Including these two who are friends and fans of Art and Eritia Smit.
Now following a bike path should have been straight forward BUT with a few unexpected forks and detours for construction, several riders found themselves lost and putting in up to 40kms extra. Also it was a little discouraging to see the directions included "at the end of the bike path, take the stairs to Galentia Ave" Take the stairs???!?!?! Apparently, Ed thought we might need a new challenge.
Another incident with a car befouled sisters Denise and Heidi with damage to Denise's bike but otherwise unscathed.
It was a long day for riders and SAGs. When I came upon Walter this is what I found.
I was actually able to grab a piece of watermelon and eat most of it before he woke up and realized I was there. Of course, I also learned not to take pictures while riding, especially across grass, when I found my front tire falling into this pit and me scrambling not to fall. All good!
A late arrival to Trinity college was warmed by a greeting from Betty, a regular blog reader, who came bearing gifts! Also there to meet me was Nancy with chocolates! It is really amazing to meet these kind people who have taken an interest in my daily ramblings. I am truly blessed.
Today I also got this new cup.
If you can't read it, it says "I WENT EVERYWHERE TODAY!" A perfect summary to my days on Sea To Sea

Once again you were in the right spot at the right time. Lynn called last night with the details but we really appreciate the pictures and your description of events.

We've been following your blog everyday. Love your honesty, hearing about your adventures and seeing your pictures.
Tim and I plan to join sea2sea ride on Saturday from Grandhaven to Calvin. Will be taking shuttle from Calvin to Grandhaven arriving about 8:00 am. Hope to see you there and maybe bike with you (if I can keep up, seeing picture of your legs, and that was weeks ago!) Fred Nydam
You sound happier more like yourself. that's good. Enjoy. Karen, GR
Hello again, Gayle: It's been a week since our God-inspired meeting in Ireton. I've gone back and read all your blogs since the beginning, what a story you have! Thanks so much for sharing your joys, frustrations, little unknown facts and places along the road with the pix - fantastic! Praising God your camera was returned and praying for His hedge of protection around you. Your eternal friend in Christ, Verla
Hi Gayle,
Another great blog about your happenings along the trail. It sounds like this one was a challenge for not getting lost. Yes, it sure must be great to have your camera. The pictures tell so much more and keep us closer in touch. Keep strong and healthy as you continue to your goal.
Prayers for all.

Gayle,
I'm almost losing battery power here. I'm up north Michigan as you and the others make your way around the lake : ) Terry shares that you are given a hard time. Stay strong. You are truly remembering the REAL reason you are riding.
God bless you! And I'll see you at 5th/3rd Park in Grand Rapids on Sunday!!!

Sorry to hear about the Attack of the Killer Sunflower -- I read of some other incidents involving said villain as well -- ha ha! The monster missed you this time! Glad to hear that Lynn's just nicked.
So, did you or did you not get lost on the bike trail? Heard from Pieter that it was tricky and some people ended up bivouacing their way to Trinity.
Looks like the sign's getting a good workout -- the gals will be pleased! Interesting that people would call the police when it's a standard employment sign so obviously used out of context. I guess there still are people watching out for strangers, even in suburbia. (Hopefully Pieter won't have to bail you out of some small-town jail one of these days for PM charges!)
Keep the faith and keep pedalling, Gayle. I'll be happy to take home any more extras you won't need this weekend. See you soon again!
Another great blog, awesome pictures! Thanks for keeping your blog updated, it means a lot for us following along.

Hiya Gayle!
I love reading your blog and seeing all the pictures. And just what ARE you and Ralph doing in that hockey rink picture? Hilarious.
I read what your pastor said to you guys on the e-letter on the homepage of Sea to Sea..on producing faithfulness...timely words I'm sure.
Keep the faith Gayle-you are on Sea to Sea for a reason! And we love you.
Looking forward to seeing you next week Thursday! Woo hoo!
Anita
PS: I'm glad to see you know Alida - my old roomate - does she have a blog? Say hello to her for me!
Gayle: It was fun meeting you at the Rally in GR after following your journey from the start -- May you finish this tour strong, enjoy the entry into Canada and home tomorrow and many many blessings as you process this experience in the months ahead!
