Another Long Day...Another Head Wind

Today we headed into a long 153kms day with a head wind. I was very thankful that the new gang had one good day under their belts so that some confidence was boosting them on during this day. Although it was cloudy and cool, there was an air of determination. I set out hoping to continue my no SAG run. That morning there had been some ribbing and rude comments about my attempt to ride. I was upset but I had a choice..I could stew about it or let it go. I decided to let it go. The people who had made the comments had not at anytime during the last 7 1/2 weeks taken the time to ride with me or understand my ride. They were measuring me by some pre-existing prejudice that just wasn't relevant. "If you speak in tongues of angels but have not love...you are like a clanging cymbal" And that is what I filed the comments under....annoying noise.
The temperature remained cool but the clouds cleared as we struggled against the wind. Unfortunately, I felt a migraine working it's way into my head by the half way point but a quick dose of meds and I was able to continue.

As we went through a lovely small town, this sign appeared.

I hate to turn down an invitation from an ice cream place so I headed over to The Parlour.

A very generous small cone of toffee ice cream lifted my spirits.
A few kms later the first of my sweep team caught up. It was Terry, one of the new team members. As we were stopped at the traffic light in Metamora, a large Buick pulled up behind us and rev ed the engine. As we continued through the green light, it came up beside us and deliberately swerved into me then proceeded to turn a corner and then stopped to watch our reaction. I wasn't hit but shaken more than I thought. Memories of my car accident flooded my head. I had to do something. By stopping they allowed me to get their license plate, so I called 911 and reported the incident. They are going to mark their license and try and have an officer follow up.
At that point, I just had to finish the ride. With focus and determination, I continued to pedal and the only thing that distracted me even for a moment was this flock of loose chicken just wandering in the ditch.

Although it was 6:30pm when I arrived at camp, I was done and a hug and words of encouragement from my friend and pastor Pieter was a welcome end. Closer to home.
Tonight, at peleton, my friend Josh, spoke in memory of his late pastor who had planned on riding SeaToSea but had died suddenly earlier this year. He did such a good job honouring the memory of his friend and pastor. I'm very proud to call him friend.
Tomorrow...across the border to Canada.

Hi Gayle, I spoke with Terry tonite and he told me I better read your blog to find out about your adventures today! He was laughing at that point as everything turned out OK. Glad you made it into camp without the sag. Enjoy your journey homeward bound and we will see you on the weekend. Yvonne Veldboom

Congrats on another day! Every day you make it to the end you accomplished another goal in SPITE of the SPITEFUL comments from those that are not practicing what they preach (would they speak to Jesus like that? I'm pretty sure not!) Take the high road and KNOW that I am on your shoulder, cheering you on, YOU GO GIRL. You show those nay-sayers!

I'm adjusting to the world again and it is hard. But I'm reading your blog and enjoying the updates. I appreciate the work you put into keeping it up to date. Keep those wheels roll'in and don't worry about those who would have you conform.

Glad you were able to get through today with avoiding another migraine, having a crazy driver swerving at you, and battling a head wind. Glad you were able to make it without a sag.

Had to write my comments out twice as I interrupted the first set to read Art's blog (kept reloading his page in between reading other blogs, waiting for his blog to be updated), and somehow lost the first set of comments.

Hi Gayle,
I've been reading your blog since the beginning and just wanted to let you know how much your joyful, positive spirit is an encouragement to me.
You're in my prayers as you near the end of this amazing journey. You are a blessing to many!

Luanne is right on target. Those with rude remarks don't practice what they preach and should be ashamed. You keep on pedaling and know we're out here praying for you. We think of you every time we look at our bright yellow Sea to Sea bag!

Gayle,

You continue to show all of us such great understanding of what this tour is all about, in my opinion. Keep on stopping and seeing the beauty of the world around you. Keep taking those wonderful photos and talking to strangers. Keep up the Good Work. Glad you beat your migraine this time.

You just keep doing your ride, Gayle. Those who mock your effort haven't got half the personality or character that you do. There's more to life than speed on a bike (although speed on a bike is fun). Way to take the high road. I hope our paths will cross again. :-)

Love ya!
