With only 20 miles to go, we headed off. The wind was now at our side but our arms had to work harder than our legs just to keep our bikes straight. IT was on this last stretch when my migraine hit hard and fast.

The Rest of the Story- Thursday July17
So we, Marti and I decided to pair up, started up the first of 3 inclines. It was steep and hot, as we worked our way through the high dessert of Utah. The terrain is miles and miles of foothills and sagebrush with no shade and crappy pavement. There was only a short coast before we hit the next incline a 6% grade in direct sunlight. It was grueling but we did it....with the reward of a 5 mile 5% coasting descent!
We flew, and had a lot of fun( stay tuned for photos as my camera is currently in a SAG that is off sight-I plan on adding them this weekend.) We headed into the last long slow incline, about 40kms. it was going well until a strong head wind started battering us. A few of the sweep team caught up to us and made a pace wedge around to try and help us out. We made it to Walter's SAG stop and thought about taking a ride but there was going to be a wait as the port-a-pottie on the first SAG had fallen off it's trailer and they were waiting for help as well. I looked at the road a head and thought..OK...right there is the border to Utah.
With only 20 miles to go, we headed off. The wind was now at our side but our arms had to work harder than our legs just to keep our bikes straight. IT was on this last stretch when my migraine hit hard and fast.

Missed you for a couple of days..so glad you're back to blogging.Corinne had a really rough time on Saturday too.Drink lots and lots of water. Many of us in Alliston, Ont.discuss your daily blogs, enjoy your adventures and pray for you and your fellow bikers. It's not scripture but I leave you with a line from an old Eagles song....
"Take it easy, take it easy, don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy."
So nice to have you back online! I've been so worried about you. I've been really praying for you last Saturday and Monday--two tough days. Then no post. You were left in the gentle hand of our Father. Thank you for today's blog!

Glad you are back online, I missed ya the last couple of days!!! Thought the migraines got the best of you....Take care of yourself and
YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
I too have been worried about you and wondering where you were at. Then I read Barb Mellema's blog and you were mentioned (flat tire) and just finished reading Cynthia Aukema's blog about Teresa and Alida in the camper and it almost tipping over and you witnessing the whole thing and knew you were back on the road. Heard you Moday morning on the radio and you sounded pretty chipper but wondered if you had on your "radio voice". I too saw Mama Mia this weekend (with Ben) and while I agree that Meryl Streep was not the best choice for Donna both of us agreed it was pure fun and a nice little escape for two hours. Ben even got my old ABBA CD's out when we got home and put them on - methinks we have a convert (he's been humming Super Trouper ever since).
Get some rest, talk to God for a while and then KEEP PEDALLING - it's the only way you're gonna get home!!!!!
Sending you love, hugs and a ton of prayers.
Heather
Gayle,
So glad to hear, er, read, that you are back online and plugging away. From my hiking experiences at high altitude I know how that saps your strength, too. Not enough of the good old O2 to go around. Our prayers are with you and all the cyclists as you push on to Denver.

Hurrah! We've caught Gayle sightings in other blogs, heard the Gayle voice on BX93, and now it seems she's back in the building! Woo hoo!
Glad to hear from you again :) Sterkte, eh?
Gayle Great to have you back!! Don't wear yourself out blogging. Rest up for the bike riding Short blogs are good to. You have some short days coming maybe that will help you to regain your energy more. You can't compare it to a car. Car's are the bad guys. You have fun and grow from your experience. God bless and keep you safe
Hi, Gayle, you don't know me, but I am a friend of Pastor Jo Tipple. I follow several of the blogs, including hers and yours, and am also glad to see a new post from you. :-) Jo actually left a message on my answering machine yesterday that I was unable to return. If you get this, and you see her (two big if's, I know), could you kindly do me the favor of telling her I did get the message and am praying for her strength tonight? I know she's had a very tough couple of days, and I read that she's having trouble with the altitude. I actually lived at 11,000' for a year- and it took me two weeks before I could move more than 5 minutes without losing my breath and energy. I can totally commiserate. Anyway, a bunch of us back here in NY (and Seattle!) are thinking of all of you, and her in particular. Please let her know she is not alone, and we love her.
Best of luck to you on your journey and I hope your migraines are easing a bit.

Thanks for the updates Gayle! We love hearing how you are doing. Like the other Heather, Art and I read many blogs and have been telling each other, "Oh, read so and so's blog. They refer to Galye." One of my aunts emailed me yesterday wondering how you were doing.
You and the other riders are often in our thoughts and prayers.
Whew! So glad you're back blogging. We were getting worried about you. Keep up the good work. Our family is praying for you and we still look forward to meeting you when you get to Trinity College!
