After three shorter days we were back to the regular distance of 104kms to Boise.
It should be no surprise that it was hot and sunny but with a slight breeze that helped keep it a little cooler. The main crops that we passed were potatos, onions and other root vegetables.
The route required many twists and turns which actually makes the trip seem shorter as it breaks it down to shorter bits. The pavement was rough and the vibrations was wearing on my arms and shoulders.
On the outskirts of Boise was this street.
Not kidding. They pronounce it as 2 words. It also include this incredible hill with a grade similiar to a roller coaster. As you crested, you couldn't see the rest of the way on a bike let alone a vehicle.
Of course, our turn was a sharp left at the bottom so it required skilled braking and manuvering. No spills but some missed the turn.
Coming into town, I missed a turn and had to double back a few kms which put me with the sweep team. Joy and I some how also got separated from them and ended up getting lost in the wilderness of Boise. Some helpful locals were able to get us back on track but we figure that the sweep team was probably ahead of us now. Along the street was a kid's lemonade stand which required investigation. Lemonade $.25 and Otter pops $.25. Otter pops? For $.25 I had to try that. I asked what they were. The kids dove into the cooler and pulled out a freezie. Their Mom looked at me and said, Are you from Canada? We had other cyclists say the same thing.
With the news of the other cyclists we ask if a guy on a slick recombant was one of them(That would be Rick-he was head of the sweep team. Yes, he was one fo them. My suggestion to Joy was that we just wait with the Lemonade and let the sweep team find us. JOy didn't think that was a good idea as her husband would be one of those looking for us and she would ahve to hear about it for years to come. WE were able to the school we were at for the night just 10 mins before dinner. Sure enough the sweep team was there! I berated them for abondoning us and told them that the Opas would be having a stern talking to the team. If those Opas loose me on the way they are going to have some explaining to do.
Ready to greet me with a hug and a smile was Jeanne Hammond, the wonderful lady who I sent on a scavenger hunt. Not only did she bring me treats and gifts from the list but also provided new coffee maker and tea kettles that were much needed in the kitchen! She had been there since 1230pm waiting for me. Apparently she hasn't read my blog to closely if she thought I would be there by noon! To fill the time, she took people to the laundry and had fresh water with ICE avaiable to everyone! Sea to Sea has been truly blessed by her kindness, graciousness and hospitality! She even had the movie schedule ready for me and is taking me to the theatre and for a pedicure tomorrow. I may not want to leave.
Also we got our first mail drop, with letters from my sister, Richard and p..a packages from the Wagenmans and Perebooms..a taste of home that was truly needed after a long day. Please know how grateful I am that God has given me such a wonderful community to love me. I am truly blessed.
And Today's rescued critters....
Along the route, I came across a small farm specializing in pot bellied pigs, with this sign.
Too good to pass by so I stopped, knocked on the door and asked if I could see them. The farmer showed me his broad and explained that he did it as a hobby. He also took in rescues..one of which was this old guy...HERMAN
It seems Herman was the middle of a divorce custody battle and needed to be rescued. He is old, partially deaf and blind and knows one trick. If you say circle, Herman will spin around for a cookie treat. Now the other pigs noticed this so they have taught themselves to turn when Herman starts turning so that they can get cookies too! The farmer says that it looks like a wierd line dance thing.
Interesting people and good information are always a treasure. I was telling a group of people at camp, they are laughing, amazed that I would just knock on a stranger's door and ask for information and tours and wishing they had of done the same thing.
Anyone is welcome to join me....the journey is part of the adventure.

Gayle,
Glad you made it to Boise. Say hi to Arnie for me. Tell him Chuck is praying for him.

Hi Gayle,
I'm the one who asked for you to stay with us when you get to Grand Rapids. I know that activities are planned for the cyclists at Calvin-facials, pedicures, etc.-but what do you want to do? We have a 20-screen theater within a mile of our house. Let me know what you want and/or want to do, and we'll make it a priority. My husband and I are empty-nesters and have been for some time. We don't live in the Bates Hotel (more like the Munsters). I don't think we'll go psycho on you, but the dog can be a little strange acting sometimes-afraid of his shadow. We call him a wuss dog. You'll love him.

Ho Gayle,
Love to reading your blog. Your make each day come alive! God bless you as your ride. Looking forward to meeting you in person in Grand Rapids.

Gayle,
It doesn't sound like you got our letter. Rats! I wonder what they will do with the late letters.
Enjoying your rest day? We had a beach day at the Pinery with great weather, lots of waves, and lots of people from church showing up. We got a bit crisped -- got to keep reapplying that sunscreen.
So, back from a camping weekend and had a delightful time catching up on the blog entries and their respective comments. Sounds like you've had a busy but good week Gayle?
Good News, barring some sort of catastrophe Ben and I will be in Jersey to meet you and pick you up as promised a year ago!! SOOO looking forward to it!
Spent the afternoon at the beach today with many of the P&P group and others from church and am sitting here with quite the sunburn on various and sundry parts of my body - face, shoulders, top of my feet - spray on sunscreen ain't all it's cracked up to be. Will be in pain for a couple of days, but I suppose that's nothing compared with what you go through every day!! I shall stop my whining.
Holly and I have something up our sleeves for the mail drop in Denver.....something to look forward to OR dread!!!!!!
Keep on peddaling and know that we think about, talk about and pray for you everyday. Conversations are always peppered with comments on your blog or concern for you! You are loved girl friend!! And it looks like more are learning to love you every day!!!!
Keep up the adventure!!!
Heather
Gayle, we're back from camping and - I kid you not - more than once I heard "I can't wait to get home and read Gayle's blog" - you are so loved. Plus, you're so cool.. And, I think you are lovely. I think it's funny that there are so many people who don't know you that also read your blog. I'm excited for August. It will be a good one when you come to town. Keep going. Each day another adventure.
Holly
Love the pot-bellied pigs. Brings back memories of when my kids were little. We had three of them. Ask Elizabeth about them sometime.
I'm continuing to follow your journeys and enjoying your blogs. May God continue to be with you.
