We are still in Kennewick camped out beside the Columbia River which is cold but we still tough it out for swimming.
Kennewick CRC held their service here in the park and then treated us to a wonderful lunch.
Just before the service, this local girl named Hannah came up and held a prayer card up to me with my picture and profile from the SeaToSea website. “We all have been praying for the cyclists and our family got you!”
She was very excited to meet me and introduced me to her friend Joanna. I was asked to speak at the service(about 10mins before it started) to give a testimony about why I was doing this tour. Instead, I gave witness to the communion in Christ as just a week ago, all the cyclists were strangers and how over just a few days we have become friends and community. How we had followed many rivers and streams to this city and we were all wanting to see justice flow(Amos 5:24). I have heard it many times on the trip- you need to look out for yourself. That may be true in the world but biblically I can’t find evidence that this is what we are call to. What we are to do is to love and serve those who God loves and He will provide for us. That is the approach I am taking with my Sea To Sea community. What ever I can do to help, serve and love is what I am called to do. God will provide what I need, either through other cyclists, support staff or people along the way. So far that seems to be working. Someone warned me that people will take advantage of me but I don’t think that the type of person that would do that, would be doing this type of trip. And you are only taken advantage of when you do something with the expection of return. I’m not expecting that. My expectations and hope lie with God. I came in to this trip expecting to do 100% of what was needed of me. I am trust that God will watch over me and provide. So far He hasn’t let me down.
There was also music by a Burmese family that has been sponsored by this congregation.
They are a living testimony to 1Thes 2:10 and “I was a stranger and you took me in.”
After lunch there were several activities to participate in but I decided that a quiet afternoon with a nap was in order. Recovery is never a waste of time.
This is the view from my tent.
