The weather changes. Yesterday was the first day that my ride wasn't in the sunshine. Today...The first with rain. It was tempting to skip the jaunt today. To sleep a little longer after a long evening and a restless night. But I needed to get out. To work off some energy, let my head go for a few hours, escape. It was a soft, warm rain that I pedalled into. The kind that is refreshing and enjoyable on a camping trip. I had to take off my glasses as the drops falling across them made the world more blurry than without them. I had a Monet perspective of the countryside as I glided by. I have conquered the Byron hill. Slow but sure, I can even make it up in the rain. I wish all challenges in life were as easy to overcome. I didn't even mind being wet, my hair forming ever tightening curls that only the hand of God can produce on my head. As my tears mixed with the rain on my face, I felt the stress being released from my heart. Many people have mentioned that I might loose weight throughout this preparation- I'm glad that it is coming off my shoulders first!
Finally, dressed for work and covered in my black rain poncho and red and white helmet, I stopped into the church office. George and Anita were amazed at the coordination of my snazzy shoes that perfectly matched my helmet. I guess even as a geek, I need to be a fashionista. Anita was so pleased "Beautiful and Functional! I Love it!" And as I rolled into work, Mark chuckled "Soggy geeks rule!" Thanks Anita and Mark....You made my day!

It's good to bike in the rain. Not every day on the tour is going to be lovely, I remember some days from 2005 that were mean and nasty and horrible, but, everyone survived and conquered them. And if you can do it with style - all the better.
Yeah for conquering the Byron hill!!!!

Gayle is a biking and cookie-baking hero. I stopped into the office this afternoon and I looked around and I said.. hmmmm... Gayle was here. Gayle, you are totally inspiring me to be a cool biker-kid like you. I have very little sense of style, but I love wearing skirts when I bike - I think it makes the hills easier or something, and I always think of Gayle when I bike up a hill in a skirt. You rock all kinds of socks.
love, holly
